On Wednesday, Bengaluru-based B2B unicorn Udaan raised $280 million in additional financing from its existing and new investors. The new investors include Octahedron Capital and Moonstone Capital that join the existing group of Lightspeed Venture Partners, DST Global, GGV Capital, Altimeter Capital, and Tencent.


The latest round of investment, a follow-on round from the $585 million raised in October 2019, valued the company at a little over $3 billion, according to reports.


The company will use the capital for market expansion and enhancing its technology platform, among other initiatives. Founded in 2016 by former senior Flipkart executives Sujeet Kumar, Amod Malviya, and Vaibhav Gupta, Udaan claims to be India's largest B2B ecommerce platform which has operations across categories including lifestyle, electronics, home and kitchen, staples, fruits and vegetables, FMCG, pharma, toys, and general merchandise.

Udaan, which became the fastest startup to achieve unicorn status (valuation of $1 billion or more) in 2018, has a network of over three million users in 900 cities, connecting to over 25,000 sellers across the country. The company addresses a market segment of over 100 million farmers, 15 million manufacturers, and 30 million traders, retailers, and service businesses.

Ad Sales Partners

Experience required: 3-4 years

The Advertisement Sales Partner will be a strategic thought partner for sales marketing and would be responsible for coordination between sales, tech and demand teams to understand the requirements and changes for the advertisement products at Udaan platform. The candidates need to have experience working in sales, while experience in media/advertising sales is preferred.

Frontend Engineer

Experience required: 3+ years

As a software engineer, you will not only be required to seep into a particular problem area as you go about building technologies that cater to millions of India’s SMEs, but will also have the opportunity to conceptualise and implement innovative technology products that help in solving complexities that come with building India’s largest B2B platform. The candidate should have experience in building UI products using frameworks like React.js.

Learning and Development Manager

Experience required: 8+ years 

This role will be responsible for managing the end-to-end training vertical for Udaan’s Customer Experience vertical and will include NHT, OJT, Knowledge Management and effective implementation of skills development programmes across the employee lifecycle. This role will require you to work closely with the company’s partners and cross-functional teams within the Udaan ecosystem.

Experience required: 8-10 years

This role involves people management, mentoring and grooming of application developers across Udaan’s different product lines as well as planning, process implementation, and improvement as required to meet stated goals. The candidate should have relevant experience in application development areas.

Product Analyst

Experience required: 5+ years of work experience in analytics

Being a digital platform, Udaan generates a massive amount of data on an ongoing basis. As a product analyst, you will be responsible for leveraging the company’s data to improve its products/functions like Ads, Credit, Discovery, Supply Chain etc.

Product Engineer 

Experience required: Minimum of 5 years 

A Product Engineer owns the product end-to-end and is accountable for the overall success criteria and long-term vision of the product that they are working on. The candidate is required to understand ‘What problem is this product trying to solve?’, ‘If this product succeeds, what does that look like?’, ‘Whose life becomes much easier because of this?’ and ‘How does this fit in with the other products?’.
