3 years ago351The Seattle Sounders FC are getting in on a different sort of “beautiful game” as the club is one of a handful selected to participate in a global celebration of soccer within the popular video game “Fortnite.”
Epic Games chose the Sounders as one of three Major League Soccer teams, along with Atlanta United and LAFC, to face off in competitive tournaments and experience new creative modes of gameplay. Twenty other top teams from around the world are also involved.
A “Seattle Sounders Cup” will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. PT. Players must register for the tournament; the top 100 finishers will be rewarded with a free collection of “Kickoff Set” outfits from the Rave Green.
On Wednesday, “Fortnite” players and soccfer fans around the world can play the game for an opportunity to earn rewards by participating in the Pelé Cup. Anyone playing the game can also visit the Creative Hub for an immersive soccer experience throughout the week and join select clubs, such as the Sounders, in their hosted game tournaments.
Starting Saturday, players can choose from 10 different variants of Kickoff Set outfits to represent their favorite club in-game. Each outfit can be swapped to any of the 23 clubs participating, including Sounders FC. Additionally, players can earn or purchase two new “Fortnite” emotes, including a “Fancy Footwork” dribbling emote and the iconic “Pelé’s Air Punch” celebration.
The partnership is especially interesting for Pelé, the iconic Brazilian soccer star who is now 80 years old and interested in cementing his legacy among younger fans.
