Tesla says two employees tested positive for coronavirus: report

Tesla has reportedly told its employees that two of its workers recently tested positive for coronavirus.

According to a report from Bloomberg, Tesla sent an email to its staff on Thursday saying that the two employees had been working at home for almost two weeks, and were currently quarantining themselves at home. The email, which Bloomberg said was sent by Laurie Shelby, Tesla’s vice president of environmental health and safety, didn’t disclose the names, nor the work locations, of the infected employees.

Tesla didn’t respond to a request for comment on the matter. The company has so far made no public statements about any of its employees contracting coronavirus.

On Monday, Tesla shut down vehicle production at its factory in Fremont following several days of back-and-forth over whether or not its operations were an essential business, and could remain open under the terms of the shelter-in-place policy that now covers all of California. The company is allowed to keep basic facility operations running such as maintenance, cleaning and building security.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk caught some flak earlier this month when he tweeted that “The coronavirus panic is dumb.” Musk has since said that if asked, he would use Tesla facilities to make ventilators, and earlier this week, tweeted that he had bought more than 1,200 ventilators from China and had shipped the devices to the U.S. for use in treating patients with coronavirus.
