SAN MARTIN — Hotels, spas, stores, and restaurants, including some in getaway destinations for California, are among the employers that revealed plans for job cuts totaling in the thousands for the Bay Area and nearby regions amid the coronavirus panic, state labor officials reported Thursday.

Rosewood CordeValle, Carmel Valley Ranch, and Ventana Big Sur were some of the high-profile names that notified the state’s Employment Development Department that they have decided to undertake layoffs, the latest grim reminder of the economic devastation resulting from the coronavirus.

Job cuts totaling about 2,100 in the Bay Area and nearby Monterey County were filed during the most recent reporting period to the EDD, according to this news organization’s analysis of the WARN notices that were filed with the state agency.

In the nine-county Bay Area, the planned job cuts total about 1,300, and in Monterey County, the employment reductions total 800, the EDD reports show.
